If you aren’t familiar with all the ways in which Trump’s loyalist Postmaster General, Louis, DeJoy, is attempting to sabotage the election by neutering the United States Postal Service, check out this Open Letter I wrote. Now it’s time to take action. Anyone trying to destroy our Democracy must be shunned and shamed in all walks of life. Mr. DeJoy is on the Board of Trustees of Elon College, so let’s flood them with calls, emails, and letters demanding that he be removed. Below is a template letter you can send. Let’s do this!

RE: Louis DeJoy
[DATE]
Dear Ms. Brook,
My name is [INSERT NAME]. I am a concerned citizen writing to ask that you immediately remove Louis DeJoy, the Postmaster General of the Postal Service, from the Board of Trustees of your esteemed college. As you may be aware, since assuming the position of Postmaster General in June, Mr. DeJoy has systematically worked to neuter the agency in order to sabotage the election and help President Trump win re-election. A man such as this—a coward so afraid of democracy that he has to subvert one of the nation’s oldest and most revered institutions in order to prevent the people’s votes from being counted—must be shunned by all corners of society. He has no place on the Board of Trustees of Elon College, and he needs to know exactly why he’s being removed: because this is America, and in America we do not tolerate lawbreaking, let alone lawbreaking in the service of proto fascism.
I imagine that Mr. DeJoy has donated a lot of money to the College and therefore that removing him is a difficult step. But it’s one you have to take. In case you haven’t been following the news, below are just a few of the abominable steps he has taken to support the President (to whom, by the way, he has donated millions of dollars):
– There are widespread reports of slowdowns in mail delivery (which I am experiencing)
– An unexplained deactivation of mail sorting machines that happen to be in states and cities critical to Senate races and the race for the White House
– The removal of letter collection boxes in swing states
– The decision to force election officials to pay higher first-class rates for mail-in ballots to ensure on-time delivery—after previously treating ballots as speedier first-class mail while charging a lower marketing mail rate.
Thank you in advance for your time. If it seems like an extreme measure to reach out to the president of a college on whose board this man sits, consider it a reflection of the severity of his actions—for he is threatening to destroy our Democracy in service of a corrupt, lying, racist, misogynistic president. We must let all people safely vote by mail in the middle of a pandemic, yet Mr. DeJoy is trying to make that impossible. This cannot stand. This will not stand.
I look forward to and appreciate your response.
Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME AND SIGNATURE]
