As the nation went insane
I hid behind outrage;
I gathered logic like kindling;
I laughed and shouted and shook my head;
I peeked out my window to watch
The crowds howl like broken machines;
I puttered about in my garden
While flowers exploded like bombs;
I tried to be a poet, an entrepreneur, a husband,
A friend, a son, a man of reason and goodness–
But insanity? He cares for nothing but himself.
He scowls at me and yells “Fuck you”
Until, hoarse with rage,
He burns grammar to the ground
And tosses civilization to the bottom of a swirling sea.
